Swapan K. Chowdhury
Schering Plough Research Institute, USA
Dr. Swapan Chowdhury is a Director of Drug Disposition at Schering Plough Research Institute. Dr. Chowdhury obtained his Ph.D. in Physical and Analytical Chemistry from the University of Alberta in 1987 under the direction of Professor Paul Kebarle. After a brief post-doctoral appointment at the University of Toronto, Dr. Chowdhury joined Rockefeller University Mass Spectrometry Research Center Directed by Prof Brian Chait as Research Fellow and became an Assistant Professor. During his tenure at Rockefeller University, Dr. Chowdhury collaborated on the design and construction of a novel mass spectrometry ion source (electrospray and APCI) with improved ion transport and stability characteristics, which is currently being used in thousands of laboratories around the world for LC-MS analysis. Between 1992 through 1996 Dr. Chowdhury worked at Sanofi-Winthrop Research in Great Valley, PA and joined the Drug Metabolism Department at Schering Plough Research Institute in 1996. Dr. Chowdhury’s current interest involves detection, identification and quantification of drugs and metabolites from biological matrices and assessing potential human risk posed by drug metabolites.
