Following his B.A. at Northwestern U. (1965) and Ph.D. at Stanford U. (1970), Alan Marshall spent 11 years at U. British Columbia and 13 years at Ohio State U, and in 1993 moved to Florida State U., where he is Robert O. Lawton Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Director of the Ion Cyclotron Resonance Program at NHMFL.
He co-invented and leads the continuing development of Fourier transform ICR mass spectrometry. His current reseach includes FT-ICR instrumentation development and mapping the primary and higher-order structures of proteins and their complexes.
He has published 4 books, 4 patents, and 481 refereed journal articles, and has presented more than 1,500 seminars/posters. His papers have been cited more than 17,000 times.
His major recognitions include: Fellow, Amer. Phys. Soc. and AAAS; three Amer. Chem. Soc. national awards Amer. Soc. for Mass Spectrometry Distinguished Contribution Award; Int'l Soc. for Mass Spectrometry Thomson Medal.
