Ian Wilson
AstraZeneca Research, UK
Ian Wilson is a Senior Principal Scientist in the Dept of Clinical Pharmacology and Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics at the AstraZeneca Research site at Alderley Park in Cheshire (UK). He trained as a biochemist (at UMIST) then undertook a PhD at Keele University. After postdoctoral work and University College London he joined Hoechst Pharmaceuticals where he worked in the areas of bioanalysis and drug metabolism. He then moved the ICI’s Pharmaceuticals Division, which then became first Zeneca and then AstraZeneca where he continued working in these areas in both discovery and development.
He is the author or co-author of some 380 papers or reviews, and has received a number of awards in separation and analytical science from the RSC (most recently the Gold Medal of the Analytical Division). In addition he sits on the editorial boards of a number of journals, including Xenobiotica and Molecular Biosystems. He is currently a visiting Professor at a number of UK Universities.
His research is presently directed towards the further development of hyphenated techniques in chromatography and their application to problems in drug metabolism and metabonomics. His particular interests in drug metabolism centre on the development of
in vivo quantitative structure metabolism relationships, research into alternatives to radiolabelling for obtaining quantitative metabolic data, reactive metabolites and new methods for metabolite identification
